WHAT IS BOTOX ?
Neuromodulators such as BOTOX®, Dysport® and Xeomin® are a class of pharmaceutical medications derived from the Botulinum bacteria (Toxin Type A). The active ingredient is a Health Canada approved purified protein that’s used in cosmetic applications to temporarily freeze the muscles that cause unwanted wrinkles in your face.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Two types of wrinkles can exist on your face: static (formed by lax tissues) or dynamic (formed by repetitive movements such as smiling or frowning). The neuromodulators or “anti-wrinkle injections” work by temporarily blocking the communication between nerve cells, preventing facial muscles from contracting. As the muscles relax, the skin takes on a smoother and more youthful appearance.
When these substances are injected into the targeted muscles underneath the skin, create a temporary weakening of the muscle contraction. Neuromodulators are very safe in that the substance doesn’t directly affect nerves or muscles. Instead, it works by blocking the nerve impulses from the brain relaxing muscle activity.
Expression lines and wrinkles, caused by aging and environmental factors, smooth and soften, giving the face a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. Both substances are ideal for treating lips, forehead, around eyes, chin and the large chewing muscles (masseter muscle). But they also have more therapeutic uses such as improvement of Tension & Migraine Headaches, Bruxism (grinding of the jaws), Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), Facial asymmetry, and Teeth Grinding.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Real, noticeable results: The best part is, studies show that neurotoxins start to act within 24 hours of injection, and can last up to 6 months.
The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes: Our medical specialists will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas.
Return to your daily routine : Treatment requires minimal downtime or recovery. It’s often called a lunchtime procedure. You’ll be able to go about your normal routine immediately after you leave.
